Archaeology of the Leżajsk Land
An exhibition in the cellars of the oldest outbuilding, leading from fossils and flint tools to Old Polish coins, weapons and documents.
Jazyk obsahu
The Exhibition of Archaeology and Old Polish History brings together fossils and traces of the region’s early inhabitants. Natural history specimens include an ammonite shell, a mammoth tusk and a horse shinbone.
The following display cases lead through the Neolithic, with axes, knives and a needle made of flint and bone. The Neolithic cultures shown in the exhibition are dated to 4600-3800 BC, and the Lusatian culture pottery to the 6th-5th centuries BC. Finds from the cremation cemetery in Grodzisko Dolne, linked to the Tarnobrzeg group, are displayed in a glass-covered section beneath the gallery floor. The Old Polish section brings together early modern pottery, fire strikers, a spur, clasps, stone and cast-iron cannonballs, lead bullets, a replica flintlock pistol and coins.
The exhibition closes with documents from 1620-1794. The figures recalled in the cellars include Władysław Jagiełło, Sigismund the Old, starost Łukasz Opaliński and Stanisław Stadnicki, known as the Devil of Łańcut. The display is completed by three information kiosks, film projections and a Pepper's Ghost optical illusion.
