Aquatic plant aquariums
A geographical overview of freshwater plants in 29 large tanks.
Jazyk obsahu
The aquarium section is entered through Panorama Natury. Tropical and subtropical plants are displayed in 29 large aquariums, each holding 1,200 litres. The collection contains more than 250 taxa of aquatic and marsh plants, including species used in aquarium keeping. Plants are arranged by geographical origin, with roots and rocks completing the displays. The collection includes representatives of Aponogeton, Echinodorus, Hygrophila and Ludwigia. This arrangement brings together plants from different parts of the world and shows their varied leaf forms.
The national collections of Echinodorus and Anubias have a special place here. They are cultivated both in aquariums and in the greenhouse in an emersed form, growing above the water surface. These two cultivation methods show different conditions in which aquatic and marsh plants can develop. Names on the aquariums correspond to numbers beside the specimens inside, helping visitors identify plants without disturbing the display. Fish from the same habitats accompany them. Like other indoor sections, the aquariums follow seasonal access arrangements. Winter visits are sometimes offered as part of separately announced guided walks.

The aquariums show plants that live in water and wet ground. There are 29 large tanks, each holding 1,200 litres. You enter this section through the Panorama Natury exhibition.
Plants are grouped by the parts of the world they come from. The aquariums also contain rocks, roots and fish from the corresponding habitats. Name labels and numbers beside the plants help identify the specimens.
The collections of Anubias and Echinodorus are especially important. They grow in aquariums but are also cultivated in the greenhouse above the water surface. This way of growing is called emersed growth. Winter visits follow a separately announced programme.
