O exponáte

The model represents the Ducal Tower in Siedlęcin, also known as the Knights’ Tower. The original was founded by Henry I, Duke of Jawor, in the second decade of the 14th century. It was a fortified home, not merely a watchtower. Built in stone on an approximately rectangular plan, it had a cellar, a ground floor, three residential storeys and an upper defensive walkway. Battlements, with alternating solid sections and gaps, protected the top.

A defensive wall and moat surrounded the tower. A bridge led to a small gate tower in the wall, forming a protected complex around the duke’s home. In the original tower’s great hall, 14th-century murals depicting Sir Lancelot of the Lake survive. A story about King Arthur’s knight decorated a room used for ceremonial occasions. The model introduces the exterior of a residence whose especially valuable treasure is inside.

Pre deti

The tower in Siedlęcin was the home of Henry I, Duke of Jawor. Its small model shows a roughly rectangular building. The real tower had cellars, a ground floor and several upper floors. People lived inside, while a walkway at the top helped them defend their home. The alternating solid sections and gaps in the parapet are called battlements.

A wall and moat surrounded the tower, with a bridge leading to its gate. Behind these defences was a hall decorated with paintings of Lancelot, a knight from the stories of King Arthur. The paintings survive in the real tower in Siedlęcin. The model in Kowary shows the building, while the knight’s story offers a glimpse of its residents’ interests.
