Jazyk obsahu
On 27 August 1941, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini met at the Anlage Süd headquarters. Both leaders remained in the Stępina area into the following day. The visit took place during the German invasion of the Soviet Union, when the command facilities built here were intended to support operations in the east.
The railway shelter was designed to receive command trains and other special trains. It was kept ready for that purpose throughout the war. The reinforced-concrete building formed part of a larger headquarters with technical facilities and smaller protective structures.
On 27-28 August, Hitler’s command train “Amerika” was based in Strzyżów, at the other Anlage Süd shelter complex. The meeting place should therefore be distinguished from the recorded location of the train. The visit connects the histories of Stępina and Strzyżów, but each site had its own structure and support facilities.
