Über das Objekt

The Iryda was intended to take over the training tasks performed by the TS-11 Iskra. The project was developed at Warsaw's Institute of Aviation during the 1970s and 1980s, and the prototype built in Mielec first flew in 1985. Initially, two PZL-5 engines powered the aircraft; later stages of the programme brought changes to its propulsion. The example bearing the number 302 belongs to the M-93K variant.

The prototype of this version first flew in 1992, using two Polish K-15 engines. The M-93K had a wingspan of 9.6 metres and a length of 13.22 metres. Between 1992 and 1996, eight Irydas were operated by the 58th Air Training Regiment in Dęblin. The type's history therefore includes both development work and experience in training service, although the programme did not lead to the widespread replacement of the Iskra.

The Iryda was designed to train pilots and replace the older Iskra. Work on the project took place at the Institute of Aviation in Warsaw during the 1970s and 1980s. The prototype was built in Mielec and made its first flight in 1985. At first it had two PZL-5 engines, but the designers later changed its engines.

The museum aircraft numbered 302 belongs to the M-93K version. The prototype of this version first flew in 1992. It used two Polish K-15 engines. The distance from one wingtip to the other was 9.6 metres, and the whole aircraft was 13.22 metres long.

Between 1992 and 1996, a training regiment in Dęblin operated eight Irydas. The aircraft therefore reached a unit that taught pilots, rather than remaining a design on paper. Despite this experience, the Iryda did not replace the Iskra on a large scale. Both designs are represented in the museum collection in Witoszów Dolny.
