Über das Objekt

The Karkonosze Cottage was built as a museum model of a mountain home from a Sudeten village in the second half of the eighteenth century. Carl Grosser's studio designed it in 1912 using sketches of houses that Hugo Seydel and Dr Baer studied on walks through Karkonosze villages. Construction began in spring 1913, with timber donated from Count Friedrich Schaffgotsch's forests in Cieplice.

The building has a log-and-post timber structure: posts beside the log walls support the roof independently. Its long body has small windows, a steep gabled shingle roof and an ornamental entrance leading to a through hall. The hall separated the domestic and farm sections and contained stairs to the attic and access to the bread oven and smoke kitchen.

Local residents supplied furnishings and equipment, which Seydel collected personally. The heating stove came from Zachełmie. Sleeping benches and a cradle stand beside it; the room served both rest and work. Paintings of patron saints on glass form the so-called holy corner.
