Über das Objekt

The original chapel doorway from 1658 was moved indoors following work on the castle in the 1970s. A copy replaced it outside. The distinction matters: the authentic stonework belongs to the lapidarium, although its form still marks the chapel entrance.

The collection contains worked stone fragments from religious and secular buildings. They include elements of doorways, windows, fireplaces and sculptures. Rather than coming from a single building, the objects have different origins and functions.

The details represent Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque forms, as well as nineteenth-century architecture. The collection thus spans the Middle Ages and later periods, bringing together different approaches to carved stone decoration.

A separate object is the original Svetlonoska of 1894, a light-bearing figure that once formed part of the promenade near the New Evangelical Church. A copy now stands outside the church. As with the chapel doorway, the original sculpture has been preserved inside the museum.
