Bazylika i Kalwaria w Wambierzycach
Wambierzyce, known as the Silesian Jerusalem, combines a Baroque basilica with chapels scattered through the village and over its hills. The names Zion, Calvary and Cedron bring biblical geography into the landscape of the Kłodzko region.
At the heart of the sanctuary is a small Gothic figure of Our Lady. Its medieval origins contrast with the elaborate altar setting and the church's formal facade. An ambulatory surrounded by eleven chapels begins a sequence of scenes from the lives of Jesus and Mary.
Daniel von Osterberg initiated the development of the complex, but the ensemble took shape in stages. The church was expanded and altered after his death, while the Calvary chapels underwent repeated rebuilding. A walk connects monumental stairs and facade sculptures with smaller structures, such as the chapel sheltering the spring.
