Hala Stulecia
Centennial Hall was built in 1911-1913 to Max Berg's design. Concrete reinforced with steel made it possible to cover the large auditorium with a dome spanning 65 metres. At the time, it was the world's largest reinforced-concrete dome. Structure, rather than ornament, defines the interior.
The ceremonial opening took place on 20 May 1913, alongside the inauguration of the Centennial Exhibition. The anniversary referred to a Prussian proclamation issued in 1813 and the struggle against Napoleon. Berg and Hans Poelzig designed the Exhibition Grounds; pavilions, a restaurant and the Pergola with its pond complemented the Hall. In 2006, the Hall and the historic central part of this layout were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The building hosts concerts, exhibitions and sporting events, and its history also includes cinema. In the 2023 film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, it played the arena. The Visitor Centre explores the monument's history through a multimedia exhibition and virtual tours. Outside, successive periods have left tangible marks: the interwar colonnade, the post-war Spire and the historic pond, fitted with the Multimedia Fountain in 2009.
