About

Kolejkowo Modelarnia

Kolejkowo Modelarnia in Jelenia Góra brings together a miniature town and the workshop where its components are made. A guide introduces a world of designs, small parts and hand finishing. Buildings, trees, rocks and figures can be explored through the way they are produced, while modern machines work alongside the model makers.

Kolejkowo has been making miniatures in Jelenia Góra since 2014. The local tradition of railway modelling, however, goes back to 1966, and historic locomotive models form part of the exhibition. Today’s workshop combines brushwork and the shaping of materials with 3D printing and systems that control movement on the layouts.

Miniature Jelenia Góra includes the Town Hall, townhouses, main railway station and Wojanowska Gate. Local motifs also include arcades and mountain scenery. Finished scenes can be compared with the process of building them, from the first sketch and cut components to lighting and furnishings inside a small house.

A visit takes in a working workshop; fewer model makers are on duty on days off and public holidays. Additional activities allow participants to create paper townhouses or paint their own figures. They take the work they make home with them.

For children

The little houses and people on a layout first have to be made in a workshop. At Kolejkowo Modelarnia, a guide shows how model makers create buildings, trees and rocks. Machines help make some parts, but the figures are painted by hand with brushes.

The exhibition includes miniature Jelenia Góra, with its Town Hall, townhouses, Wojanowska Gate and railway station. There are historic locomotive models too. They represent the town’s older modelling tradition, which dates to 1966. Kolejkowo has made its own miniatures here since 2014.

You visit the workshop with a guide. You need to stay on the permitted path and leave tools and machines untouched. Fewer model makers work on days off and public holidays. In additional workshops, you can build a paper townhouse or paint a figure yourself and take the finished work home.
