Mining, Geology and Radiation Exhibition

From mineralised rocks and R-1 history to radiation detectors and the properties of uranium glass.

About the exhibition

Uranium in rock, industry and glass connects four parts of the exhibition. Mineralisation introduces the raw material's geological origins, while the history of Industrial Plants R-1 explains why post-war Kowary became a focus of Soviet uranium exploration.

Measuring instruments introduce radiation detection. The glass collection, meanwhile, demonstrates fluorescence under UV light, an optical phenomenon distinct from radioactivity. These two experiences require different tools: a detector for measurement and suitable illumination for observing colour.
