About

Kopalnia Uranu Sztolnie Kowary

Sztolnie Kowary opens the workings of the former Liczyrzepa mine to visitors. Its history begins with 19th-century fluorite mining, while later underground work involved prospecting for uranium. Authentic passages and miners' tools provide a starting point for exploring this industrial heritage.

The story of Industrial Plants R-1 reaches beyond a single mine: it includes mineral exploration, Soviet supervision and shipments of raw material to the USSR. The displays bring this history together with geology and radiation-detection instruments.

A glass collection reveals another use of uranium, with ultraviolet light bringing out its green fluorescence. A laser simulation of an atomic explosion also forms part of the programme. Natural rock, a glassmaker's product and a modern show offer a comparison of different uses of the same element.
