Museum of Warnings, Notices and Appeals
Workplace signs combining safety rules, prohibitions and exhortations to work.
Content language
Signs in the Museum of Warnings, Notices and Appeals came from places including the black-powder factory in Mąkolno, factories in Walim and nearby state farms. The collection began in August 2000. At first, items were gathered from local workplaces; later, visitors brought further examples as gifts.
The messages concern workplace safety, restricted access, sobriety and cutting costs. Their official tone and direct instructions preserve the language of former workplaces. Most signs are in Polish, but the collection also includes German examples, among them old street names from Złoty Stok. The display occupies a former transport passage and forms part of the underground visitor route, although its name suggests an independent museum.
