Muzeum Bursztynu w Jarosławcu
Amber in Jarosławiec has local roots: a substantial part of the collection consists of pieces found on nearby beaches or recovered from the sea. Max Kwiatkowski received the beginnings of the collection from his father and grandfather in 2008 and opened the first exhibitions in 2014. The family collection grew to include large pieces, inclusions and other fossil resins.
Three scenic displays explore different stages of that story. The forest presents the formation of resin, the mine explains extraction, and the inclusions reveal insects and plants preserved in amber. The smell of moss, rustling leaves and enlarged views of small organisms accompany the specimens. A sifting station lets visitors search for amber themselves.
The collection extends beyond material from the Baltic region. It includes a 42-kilogram kauri resin specimen from New Zealand, which joined the exhibition in 2022. Comparing it with Baltic amber reveals resins with different origins and ages.
