About

The Municipal Museum in Bolesławiec was founded in 1911 at 13 Mickiewicza Street. It was the predecessor of today's Ceramics Museum, which used the same address for many years.

The First World War interrupted the institution's work. It reopened in 1920, with Artur Schiller taking charge of the museum.

After the Second World War, its situation was much more difficult: a report from 1946 described the Municipal Museum as virtually non-existent. The pre-war collections had disappeared towards the end of the war, including master potter Joppe's Great Pot.

The institution was nevertheless never dissolved. It was operating again by 1950, when museums across Poland were nationalised. The post-war institution thus took the place of the earlier museum, but its collections had to be rebuilt.
