About

Muzeum Ceramiki w Bolesławcu

Brown clay glazes, cobalt decoration and raised appliqués reveal different sides of Bolesławiec ceramics. The Ceramics Museum in Bolesławiec collects historic and contemporary wares, objects relating to the city’s history, and sculptures created during local artist residencies.

The collection includes excavated vessels, products of earlier pottery workshops and examples of technological changes associated with the local ceramics school. A copy of the Great Pot recalls master potter Joppe’s vessel with its 1,970-litre capacity. Sections of the exhibition explore apothecary practice, the origins of stamped decoration, industry and post-war Bolesławiec.

Since April 2024, the ceramics and city-history collections have been displayed in Pückler Palace. Its Gothic Revival exterior is recognisable by its three wings and battlemented tower. A restored historic park adjoins the museum.

The institution traces its origins to the Municipal Museum founded in 1911 and adopted its present name in 1968. The palace conversion formed part of cooperation with Norway’s Telemark Museum on the European Route of Ceramics.
