About

Wojciech Jama’s gift formed the basis of the Museum of Bedtime Cartoons, established in 2008 and opened to the public on 22 March 2009. Through the objects he collected, Jama revisited the television characters of his childhood. His collection grew over decades before finding a museum home.

Jama’s early collection included original puppets of Colargol, Raven and Hector from “Colargol in the Wild West”, and Miś Uszatek and the rabbits. He also kept animation cels featuring Bolek and Lolek, Reksio, Baltazar Gąbka and Miś Kudłatek. He collected posters, theatre programmes, books, comics and magazines connected with bedtime cartoons. Slides and their projectors brought pictures into the home, while records carried audio dramas about the characters.

The museum also collects production materials: designs, scripts, storyboards and animation cels. Jama’s gift brought together objects from the filmmaker’s workplace and things that viewers lived with at home.
