About

The Mercedes-Benz 250 GD Wolf entered Bundeswehr service in 1989 as a replacement for the Volkswagen Iltis. It was a military version of the off-road G-Class. Its OM602 diesel engine has five cylinders, a capacity of 2.5 litres and an output of 92 hp.

The basic configuration seats four people. The Bundeswehr mainly used short, open-bodied versions. For off-road travel, the Wolf has all-wheel drive and front and rear differential locks, which limit differences in wheel rotation speed. Its electrical system operates at 24 V, and the spare wheel is carried at the rear. Unlike trucks carrying multi-tonne loads, the Wolf is a small transport vehicle.

For children

Wolf is German for “wolf”. This military Mercedes began replacing the Volkswagen Iltis in the German Army in 1989. The basic version carries four people. Its diesel engine has five cylinders and a capacity of 2.5 litres.

The vehicle has all-wheel drive. Special differential locks help the wheels work together on difficult ground. Its electrical system runs at 24 V, and the spare wheel is at the back. It is much smaller than the trucks in the collection: its job is to carry a small group of people rather than a load weighing several tonnes.
