Minerals of Eastern Bavaria
Norbert Klose’s gift: rare minerals from Hagendorf and other Bavarian localities.
Content language
In 2014-2015 Norbert Klose donated a collection of more than three thousand specimens from eastern Bavaria. The public exhibition shows only part of that gift: over two hundred specimens. Opened in 2015, it retains the collection's regional focus.
Minerals from Hagendorf form its core. The locality's zoned phosphate pegmatites yielded many rare minerals, with more than a dozen first recognised there. Displayed specimens include strunzite, phosphophyllite, beraunite, bermanite, earlshannonite and wilhelmvierlingite.
Other localities include Wölsendorf, Wurlitz and Göpfersgrün, as well as Freihung, Krandorf and Auerbach. Wölsendorf supplied fluorites and pseudomorphs after fluorite; Wurlitz is represented by topazolites, while pyromorphites come from Freihung and Krandorf. Churchites represent Auerbach. The selection preserves the gift's detailed geography: the broad regional title leads to specific deposits, towns and minerals in the cabinets. The collection covers material from Franconia and the Upper Palatinate.

Collector Norbert Klose gave the museum more than three thousand specimens from Bavaria. Over two hundred are shown in the exhibition, which opened in 2015.
Minerals from Hagendorf form the main part of the collection. Many rare minerals were discovered there. Other specimens come from Wölsendorf, Wurlitz and further localities. They include fluorites, topazolites and pyromorphites. The different names on labels connect a mineral with the place where it was found. The exhibition is a selection from a large gift, not all the specimens Klose donated.
