About

Muzeum Sentymentów

A glass fish on a television, a school smock and a Frania washing machine are among the objects around which Muzeum Sentymentów in Kowary is arranged. The exhibition occupies a building of the former carpet factory. Collector Andrzej Olszewski opened it in June 2018 after years of gathering things connected with daily life.

The grandparents’ and teenagers’ rooms, kitchen, bathroom and classroom present objects in furnished interiors. Toys sit alongside collections of packaging and posters, dishes accompany decorative textiles, and textbooks appear with old teaching aids. The director’s office refers to the film “Miś”. The museum also covers later decades, although much of its story concerns objects familiar from the Polish People’s Republic.

The former factory left its own memorabilia here: the original laboratory and the platform from which Edward Gierek addressed the workforce in 1978. Domestic life meets the history of local work. The collections also grow through objects donated by visitors.

For children

At Muzeum Sentymentów, you can see things used by parents and grandparents: toys, school smocks, dishes and old household appliances. They are arranged in furnished rooms. A glass fish stands on a television, a Frania washing machine occupies the bathroom, and textbooks and a blackboard belong to the classroom.

Collector Andrzej Olszewski created the museum and opened it in June 2018. The objects come from the Polish People’s Republic and later years. Drinks cans and posters also show what children and teenagers used to collect.

The building belonged to a carpet factory. Its real laboratory survives. The collections also include the platform from which Edward Gierek addressed the workers in 1978. These objects help tell the story of work in Kowary.
