About

Muzeum Techniki Wojskowej GRYF

At the GRYF Military Technology Museum, heavy vehicles can be compared with the equipment that made them work. Tanks, armoured carriers and engineering vehicles form a collection alongside guns, missiles, historic cars and military equipment. Marian Kotecki founded the museum in April 2013; it has been based in Dąbrówka near Wejherowo since May 2015. The displays include more than a hundred vehicles, guns and other large exhibits.

The SKOT training cutaway exposes the carrier’s mechanisms, while the engine collection places vehicle power units alongside a generator set. The museum room displays small arms, uniforms and soldiers’ equipment. A German Second World War field workshop, furnished with original equipment, occupies an underground shelter. The sapper collection includes bombs, mines, grenades, artillery ammunition and engineering equipment. A Mi-2 helicopter, guns and missiles add to the outdoor displays.

GRYF vehicles have appeared in the films “Miasto 44” and “Kamerdyner”, and the television series “Czas Honoru - Powstanie”. The museum works with reenactors on historical demonstrations in which operational vehicles are shown in motion. Surviving vehicles should be distinguished from reconstructions: the museum’s Panther was built on a T-55 chassis. A separate reminder of the site’s history is the Cold War command shelter of the 25th Air Defence Missile Squadron, which can be visited by prior arrangement and appointment with the museum.

Guided visits require advance booking. Military vehicle rides also require advance booking and are an additional activity, separate from a standard museum visit. Other activities include a minefield activity, archery, a shooting range, forest survival activities and a rollover simulator.

For children

At the GRYF Museum, you will meet huge vehicles and smaller devices that helped them work. There are tanks, carriers for soldiers, trucks and road-building machines. Each had a different job. One carried people, another moved heavy loads, and another cleared obstacles. Marian Kotecki founded the museum in 2013. It has been based in Dąbrówka near Wejherowo since 2015.

Some exhibits help you look inside a machine. The SKOT training cutaway exposes parts of the carrier. In the engine collection, you can compare vehicle engines with a machine that generates electricity. There are also uniforms, military equipment and a Second World War workshop set up in an underground shelter. A separate collection presents the equipment of sappers, soldiers whose work includes dealing with mines and obstacles.

Museum vehicles have appeared in films, too. The Panther is a reconstruction: it was built to resemble a historical tank using the chassis of another vehicle. The collection therefore introduces both old machines and the work of people who restore or recreate them. The Cold War command shelter can be visited by prior arrangement and appointment with the museum.

If you want to visit with a guide, you need to book in advance. Military vehicle rides also need to be booked in advance and are a separate activity from a standard museum visit. The museum also offers a minefield activity, archery, a shooting range, forest survival activities and a rollover simulator.
