About

The historic furnishings came from a pharmacy operating in nearby Ľubica around the turn of the twentieth century. Medicine containers, syringes and a small medicine chest containing homeopathic preparations illustrate different ways of storing and administering remedies.

A tincture press and a pill-making device were among the tools used to prepare medicines. The collection also includes packaging from the former Golden Stag Pharmacy. Alongside interior furnishings, small objects survive from the work of preparing and dispensing remedies.

The exhibition recalls the Association of Spiš Doctors and Pharmacists, founded in 1867 at the initiative of Kežmarok physician Gregor Tátray the Younger. It promoted health education and the professional development of doctors and pharmacists through conferences, seminars and publications.

Local healthcare is documented much earlier. Kežmarok already had a hospital in the fifteenth century, while pharmacists appear in records from the following century. The Ľubica furnishings represent a later stage of this tradition.
