About

Period homes and a hairdresser's salon feature alongside uniforms, decorations and weapons in the museum's account of Łańcut. The City History Department presents everyday life from the late 19th to the first half of the 20th century. Its domestic-life display explores the material culture of local educated townspeople and craftspeople.

A second exhibition presents memorabilia of the 10th Mounted Rifle Regiment, a Polish Army unit stationed in Łańcut from 1921 to 1939. Military history adds another aspect to a town best known for its aristocratic residence. Displays on monitors pair major events with archival images.

Łańcut was founded in the 14th century on a west-east trading route. Weaving and metalworking developed here over the centuries. The town had its own fortifications, independent of Łysa Góra, where the first castle stood. Successive owners were the Pilecki, Stadnicki, Lubomirski and Potocki families. After the First Partition of Poland, Łańcut became part of Austria and later a county seat.
