About the route

The first stop introduces the pygmy hippo and its life between land and water. The story then turns to the agile gibbon and cotton-top tamarin, two primates that use their arms, fingers and tails differently. The snowy owl introduces the northern tundra, while the meerkat illustrates group living and shared vigilance.

The next encounters focus on the Amur tiger and African lion. The tiger’s solitary hunting can be compared with the social life of a lion pride. The following stops feature the red kangaroo, scimitar-horned oryx and European bison. They share a plant-based diet but differ in their native environments, movement and body structure. The final story explains rumination and the difference between bison horns and deer antlers.

For children

The encounters begin with the pygmy hippo. Next come the gibbon, which travels using long arms, and the tamarin with its white crest. The snowy owl’s story takes us to the cold north. The meerkat shows how animals warn one another about danger.

Then you compare two big cats: a tiger and a lion. One usually lives alone, the other in a pride. Next are the kangaroo, oryx and European bison. They all eat plants, but look and move differently. At the bison stop, you find out what chewing the cud means and why its horns are different from a deer’s antlers.
