About

Ogród Zoologiczny CANPOL

CANPOL Zoo in Sieroczyn, near Człuchów, is part of a complex that combines the zoo with dining, accommodation and leisure facilities. Its collection includes large predators, primates, hoofed mammals and birds. Alongside the Amur tiger and African lion, its residents include the pygmy hippo, European bison and scimitar-horned oryx.

Smaller animals have their own ways of finding food and moving around. The agile gibbon uses long arms to travel through the treetops, the cotton-top tamarin balances with its long tail, and meerkats combine group living with watchful observation. The snowy owl represents the birds of the far north, while the red kangaroo comes from Australia’s dry regions.

Ten species stories explore different habitats and adaptations, from tropical forest to tundra, and from hopping and climbing to ruminating on plant food. Comparing lions with tigers reveals the difference between pride life and solitary hunting. European bison and oryx introduce two herbivores with different builds and origins.

For children

Animals from different parts of the world live at CANPOL Zoo in Sieroczyn. They include big cats, small monkeys, birds and plant-eaters. Each species has different needs and its own ways of living in its natural home.

A gibbon travels using its long arms, while a kangaroo hops on strong back legs. Meerkats warn one another about danger. A bison chews plant food again after swallowing it. A snowy owl nests on the ground, although many other birds choose trees.

Stories about ten animals explain what tails, horns and different coats are for. Lions live in prides, while tigers usually live alone. The small pygmy hippo is a separate species, not a baby version of a large hippo. Questions alongside the animal stories help you remember their features.
