“Kresy. Ocalone wspomnienia” (“Eastern Borderlands: Saved Memories”) follows residents of the eastern territories of the Second Polish Republic who settled in Silesia after the Second World War, including in Brzeg and the surrounding area. Their documents and family mementos belong to the Archiwum Kresowe collection. They come mainly from the former Lwów, Stanisławów, Tarnopol and Wołyń voivodeships.
A multimedia presentation complements the objects and documents with photographs of borderland towns and villages. The images include castles, manor houses, palaces and churches that formed the surroundings left behind by post-war displaced families. Family archives and views of settlements provide two complementary strands: individual lives and the places where they unfolded. In this account, post-war Brzeg is a place of settlement, while the eastern borderlands survive in documents, objects and photographs.
