Nature of the Nové Město region
Woodland, wetlands and rocks brought together in a small regional display.
Idioma del contenido
Behind the glass of the diorama are rocks, mixed woodland, reedbeds and an aquatic habitat, together with their typical animals. This is a cross-section of the surroundings of Nové Město nad Metují, focusing on neighbouring habitats within the region. The botanical section pairs mixed woodland with a wet meadow and includes examples of tree-trunk structure. An aquarium and terrariums stand in the middle of the room as part of the display of living nature.
A separate theme concerns insects: their diversity, the structures they build and the mimicry that helps them survive. Alongside plants and animals are rocks, minerals and fossils from the immediate area. The geological section introduces Josef Sekyra, a geologist and polar explorer born in the town. He was the first Czech to reach the South Pole, connecting these local collections with the exploration of distant parts of the Earth.
