Historic Pharmacy Dispensing Room
Historic furniture, vessels and tools reveal the equipment of a room where medicines were dispensed.
Idioma del contenido
In an old pharmacy, the dispensing room was where medicines were handed to patients. Its Polish name, sala ekspedycyjna, might suggest dispatching goods, but here it referred to serving the person who had come for medicine. The museum interior preserves the character of such a room: historic wooden furniture surrounds a collection of pharmacy vessels and implements.
Small jars and bottles on the shelves recall the storage of substances used to prepare medicines. They formed part of a workshop where the necessary ingredients had to be close at hand. Tools for making medicines are displayed alongside the containers. Objects associated with preparation and with dispensing thus share the same room.
Wood dominates the furnishings, framing shelves filled with smaller vessels. The contrast between large pieces of furniture and tiny jars and bottles is one of the most recognisable features of an old pharmacy interior.

The dispensing room was the part of a pharmacy where the apothecary handed out medicines. Its Polish name does not refer to an expedition or a journey. In the museum, historic wooden furniture fills the room. Jars and small bottles stand on its shelves.
These vessels held raw materials: ingredients needed to prepare medicines. Tools used by apothecaries are displayed beside them. The equipment connects two tasks: making medicine and giving it to a patient. Large wooden cupboards and shelves hold many small containers. Together, they give the room the appearance of an old pharmacy.
