TKh2-12 steam locomotive
A Prussian tank engine that worked at a colliery and later appeared in Polish television productions.
Idioma del contenido
TKh2-12 was built in 1890 by Union-Gießerei in Königsberg. It belongs to the Prussian T7 class, predating the Polish designation by which it is now known. It is a tank engine: water and fuel were carried on the locomotive itself, without a separate tender. It has three driving axles and runs on 1,435-millimetre standard-gauge track. These features describe the machine's construction regardless of its changing ownership.
After the Second World War, it worked at the Kazimierz-Juliusz colliery in Sosnowiec. Its history therefore includes industrial transport as well as railway service. In 1974 it was sent for a major overhaul and was subsequently based at Wrocław Gądów.
There it was steamed for film work, including the television series Lalka and Rodzina Połanieckich. A late nineteenth-century machine could take part in recreating old railway journeys rather than merely stand as scenery. Its screen appearances gave an existing locomotive another job; it had not been built as a film prop.
