The Castle Park
Formal gardens beside the castle and winding landscape paths, expanded by Roman and Elżbieta Potocki.
Idioma del contenido
The landscape park has winding paths, broad lawns and a variety of trees and shrubs. Closer to the castle, the layout becomes more formal: a rose garden was planted in front of the Orangery's south facade, and an Italian garden in front of the castle's east facade.
The grounds were laid out in the late 18th century. Around the turn of the 20th century, Roman and Elżbieta Potocki, née Radziwiłł, nearly doubled their area by adding land to the east and west. At the same time, the gardens were redesigned, with distinct spaces within the moat. A perennial border was planted in front of the new service wing, while long beds of summer flowers lined the approach from the western bridge.
Beyond the moat, a Palm House inspired by Viennese examples and greenhouses for growing orchids were built. The Palm House was demolished after the First World War. Successive restoration projects have preserved the landscape layout and mature trees. Formal gardens around the buildings and the more loosely arranged greenery remain two contrasting parts of the same grounds.
