Idioma del contenido
The bank building was erected in 1912 for the Austro-Hungarian Bank. It was designed by the Kraków architect Teodor Hoffmann (1874-1959), author of many residential and public buildings.
In 2016 it was bought by the Małopolska Region to house the museum, and in 2017 it underwent a thorough renovation and modernisation. The work restored the prominence of the grand staircase and the main hall on the top floor.
Today the layout of the floors follows the visitor's path. The lowest level holds the reception and ticket hall and the collection stores, the next level the workshops and offices, while a wide staircase with handrails on both sides and a lift lead to the exhibition floor. The exhibition in the new premises opened to visitors on 27 April 2018. Before that the main collections were kept in the Gothic House on Lwowska Street, renovated for the museum in 1959-1965. Since 24 January 2024 the institution has been called the Museum of the Sącz Land, returning to its name of 1938.
