120 metres is the depth of the amber deposits near Chłapowo discussed in the exhibition. Visitors do not descend to that depth. The museum's mine setting shifts attention from amber gathered on the seashore to material buried underground. The display compares past and present extraction and also explores deposits beyond the Baltic region.
The tools on display were used in amber extraction. They are accompanied by authentic excavated material from which the amber is separated. The collection includes dozens of large pieces and hundreds of smaller ones. The largest weighs more than 3.2 kilograms. This refers to Baltic amber displayed here, not the much heavier kauri resin from New Zealand.
The section called “Urobisko bursztynu” offers hands-on sifting and a chance to search for pieces of amber. Visitors work with a sieve, while the historical tools remain museum exhibits.
