“Lower Silesians: Memory, Culture, Identity” presents the culture of Lower Silesia’s inhabitants before 1945 and the post-war lives of settlers. The first part brings domestic interiors together with crafts and farm work. It includes decorated furniture, paintings on glass, figure hives and tools used to work wood, fibres and metal.
Belongings brought after the war represent different regional traditions. Embroidered shirts, Hutsul sheepskin garments, bedspreads and vessels were part of family possessions. Photographs document settlers’ lives before arrival and in their new homes. The history of the Lemkos includes forced resettlement during Operation Vistula. The exhibition examines work, daily life and the preservation of customs in changed surroundings.

The “Lower Silesians” exhibition concerns people living in one region at different times. The first part contains things used before 1945: furniture, pictures, clothing and tools. It introduces the work of coopers, weavers and blacksmiths.
The second part shows objects brought after the war, including clothes, textiles and vessels from the new inhabitants’ former homes. Photographs help explain their earlier homes and life after arrival. Many people had to leave the places where they had lived; Lemkos were forcibly resettled during Operation Vistula.
