A Lower Silesian room
Painted furniture, household vessels and pictures evoke a historic home.
Langue du contenu
The Lower Silesian room is a museum arrangement, rather than an exact reconstruction of a single home. Objects illustrating the region’s former culture have been brought together here. The furnishings represent a countryside closely connected with towns, where factory-made products were also used. Large items include a wardrobe, dresser, table and chest, accompanied by stools, a bed and a cradle. Carefully worked decoration is an important feature of these pieces. Together they served storage, rest and the care of a small child.
Smaller objects include a book stand, spoon racks, salt containers and several kinds of small boxes. Vessels stand on shelves. A spoon rack kept spoons in order, while a book stand supported an open book. These small items complemented the larger furniture in daily use. The walls are decorated mainly with paintings on glass, showing Marian images from Silesian pilgrimage sites and saints popular in the region. Oleographs and pictures embroidered on cardboard canvas appear alongside them. Different techniques were used for these household images, which shared religious subjects.

The museum’s room contains furniture from historic Lower Silesia. It does not copy one particular home. Different objects have been arranged to show how homes were furnished. There is a table, wardrobe, chest, bed and cradle.
Smaller items had their own jobs. Spoon racks held spoons, and a stand could support a book. Vessels sit on shelves. Paintings on glass show Mary and saints. Printed pictures and embroidery on cardboard are also displayed. Villagers used both handmade things and products from factories.
