Homestead from Kopcie
A Lasowiak forest homestead with widely spaced farm buildings and a honey extractor in its living room.
A tartalom nyelve
The homestead from Kopcie represents a Lasowiak forest farm established “on a raw root”, a local expression for a newly cleared site in the forest. Its large buildings were spaced well apart so that a fire would not immediately engulf the whole farm. They comprise a cottage from Cierpisz dated 1859, a barn from Kopcie Stare from the second half of the 18th century, a granary from Kopcie-Żarkowina from the late 18th century and a stable from Nowa Wieś near Kolbuszowa from the second half of the 19th century.
The cottage has a living room, a spacious entrance hall and a storage room for food and the owners' valuables. The hall contains harnesses, quern stones, a cheese press and bread-making utensils. Oak beds, chairs and a glazed cupboard with decorative dishes reflect the household's wealth. A honey extractor stands in the living room: a small barrel with a crank used to spin honey out of the combs. The honey drained through a hole or funnel into a shallow vessel. Equipment for extracting honey thus stands alongside the objects used to run the household.
