2S1 Goździk self-propelled howitzer
A tracked artillery vehicle with its own engine and a rotating turret.
Lingua dei contenuti
The Goździk combines a 122 mm howitzer with its own tracked chassis. It was developed in the Soviet Union in the 1960s and began entering service early in the following decade. The turret-mounted 2A31 howitzer was developed from the towed D-30. The vehicle used components from the MT-LB carrier, with the chassis lengthened by an additional pair of road wheels.
These choices explain its form: a separate tractor and towed gun were replaced by a single vehicle. Despite its tracked running gear, the 2S1 was amphibious. Licensed production of the Goździk in Poland took place at Huta Stalowa Wola between 1984 and 1994. The museum example forms part of the artillery and vehicle collection in Witoszów Dolny, alongside the T-72 tank and armoured personnel carriers. The museum’s Goździk was manufactured in 1986 at Huta Stalowa Wola.
An additional attraction is a ride in the 2S1 Goździk self-propelled howitzer: a 15-minute ride for 4 people costs PLN 300. This is the price for the whole group, not per person. The ride price may change for the 2027 season.

The Goździk is an artillery gun with its own engine. It does not need a separate vehicle to tow it. It moves on tracks, and its howitzer sits inside a rotating turret. A howitzer is a type of artillery gun. Its calibre is 122 millimetres: this number describes the diameter inside the barrel.
The design was developed in the Soviet Union in the 1960s. The designers used earlier ideas. They developed the gun from the D-30 howitzer, which had to be towed. For the chassis, the lower structure carrying the vehicle's running gear, they used the MT-LB carrier as a starting point. They lengthened it by one pair of wheels. The Goździk could also float and travel through water, although it used tracks on land.
In Poland, Goździks were built at Huta Stalowa Wola between 1984 and 1994. The museum example was made there in 1986. It represents vehicles built in Poland using a design first developed in another country.
