Watermill
A wooden watermill with displays of historic milling equipment and the Bread Museum.
Lingua dei contenuti
The watermill was built in the second half of the nineteenth century. Unlike the wooden buildings relocated to the open-air museum, it still stands on its original site. The timber building uses log construction, has a roof covered with S-shaped tiles and follows an L-shaped plan. It combined living and industrial areas, keeping the mill’s work close to the household.
The industrial section displays milling machinery, querns, grain mortars, measures and scales. The mill mechanism is a reconstruction powered by an wooden waterwheel. The residential section houses the Bread Museum. Together, the equipment and this display connect the mill’s work with its finished product. The mill was built beside a pond connected with the Ralka River, which flows through the park. Besides grinding grain, it helped regulate the pond’s water level. One sluice discharged excess water, while the other supplied the wheel. The building is historic, while the working drive mechanism was reconstructed. Measures and scales complement the grain-processing equipment, showing how products were also measured and weighed.
