O exponáte

Conrad von Borsig (1873-1945) was a Berlin industrialist, co-owner of the August Borsig GmbH company and a member of the German Dendrological Society. In 1922 he bought the Przelewice estate and, until the end of the Second World War, devoted himself above all to the garden. In 1933-1938 he transformed the old park into a dendrological garden, and the redesign covered about 20 hectares. About 22 hectares of the part open to visitors today are precisely this original, pre-war section of the layout.

The design was prepared by Helmuth Spaeth and Dr Karl Kempkes of Ludwig Spaeth's Berlin nursery, and it was carried out by landscape architect Karl Heydenreich from Wrocław. At that time more than 500 species of trees and shrubs from Asia, North America and Europe were planted. At the end of the war Borsig was shot dead by Soviet soldiers and buried within the garden.

From Borsig's death until 1992 Przelewice was state property, and the dendrological layout he created is now protected as a historic monument. The stone commemorating Borsig received a new plaque.
