O exponáte

The present church is the third to stand on this spot. It was built in 1781-1789 to a design by Józef Karsznicki, after the fire of October 1777 destroyed the Gothic-baroque church and monastery. The church was consecrated in 1806.

The three-bay nave is lined with six shallow altar niches framed by Tuscan pilasters, and the organ gallery rests on Ionic columns. The furnishings were funded by Abbot Józef Niegolewski. The altar paintings are by Franciszek Smuglewicz, among them the Holy Trinity in the high altar, Saint Joseph, Saint Emeric talking with an angel, and Saint Scholastica with Saint Benedict. The Holy Trinity in the high altar measures about 3 by 5 metres. The same painter also depicted the Finding of the Holy Cross with a scene of miraculous healing, and Saint Benedict dying on his feet. Carved 18th-century confessionals and pews survive in the nave, along with two rows of stalls in the chancel. A marble portal inside repeats the form of the main portal from the end of the 18th century.

The present organ came here in 1980 from the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Katowice. On 16 June 2013 the church received the title of minor basilica.
