About

Peppa Pig appeared in TVP1’s bedtime slot on 30 August 2013, as its daily run on that channel came to an end. From autumn 2013, TVP1 kept the programme on Saturdays and Sundays, while TVP Kultura broadcast a daily bedtime slot. The schedule change did not mean that evening cartoons disappeared from Polish public television altogether.

Peppa originated in the United Kingdom, where she first appeared on screen in May 2004. She was created by London animation studio Astley Baker Davies, formed by Neville Astley, Mark Baker and Phil Davies. The same studio also created “Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom” and “The Big Knights”.

For the series’ first two decades, Peppa’s immediate family consisted of her younger brother George, Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig. Family stories and everyday preschool experiences lay at the heart of her adventures. A further change in children’s broadcasting came with the launch of TVP ABC on 15 February 2014. The story of the bedtime programme thus also leads to a separate channel for young viewers.
