Múzeum Jána Thaina
The Ján Thain Museum presents Nové Zámky and its surroundings through objects found in the ground, used in homes and connected with the study of language. Archaeology begins the story with hunters and the first settlements. Later finds lead through the Bronze Age, contact with the Romans and the Early Middle Ages.
Models of two former fortresses reveal the town's military past, while guild products and charters introduce its residents' lives. Carved wood, silver ornaments, embroidery and farm tools form a chapter on craft and everyday life. The differing biographies of Anton Bernolák and Gergely Czuczor share a concern with language: Slovak and Hungarian.
The town's first museum was founded in 1936. Its founders included Ján Thain, Ludvík Albrecht, Béla Szőke and Kazimír Saskó. The institution continues to research and document the region, bringing archaeological finds together with history, ethnography and literary heritage.
