About

Muzeum Toruńskiego Piernika

The former Gustav Weese factory now houses a collection of moulds, ovens and objects connected with gingerbread-making. The Museum of Toruń Gingerbread occupies an industrial building from 1885. This branch of the District Museum opened in 2015 with the involvement of the city and the Kopernik confectionery factory.

The collection includes wooden moulds from the 17th to the 20th century and ovens from different periods, including a reconstruction of a medieval domed oven. The ingredients room presents honey, flour and spices. The story then moves from craft to business: through the factory owner's office, a domestic kitchen and old shops to a café with films and a Żuk used to deliver gingerbread.

At the workshop table, decorative gingerbread is made from dough supplied by Kopernik. The Gingerbread Laboratory is a separate space for themed culinary and craft sessions. Historical moulds in display cases and present-day work with dough show two aspects of the same trade.
