À propos de l’objet

The Kashubian Cottage was built on the site of earlier residential and farm buildings. Parts of their foundations have been preserved outside. The present museum building and the older remains therefore belong to different stages in the history of the same site.

Inside are a permanent display about archaeological research and an exhibition about the lives of fishermen. One explores how the past is investigated; the other concerns an occupation closely tied to the water.

Archaeologists who worked at Rzucewo included Józef Kostrzewski and Konrad Jażdżewski. Their investigations in 1927-1929 preceded the introduction of the term Rzucewo culture in 1930. The name brought together similar finds from coastal settlements.

After work resumed in 1984, researchers examined the layout of buildings, workplaces and successive layers of settlement. The Cottage also contains a multimedia room and teaching spaces. Alongside its exhibitions, the museum provides facilities for learning how scattered traces can reveal the lives of former inhabitants.

The museum in the Kashubian Cottage is open Tuesday to Sunday: 9:30-16:30 in summer and 8:30-15:30 in winter. The exhibition is closed on Mondays. The summer season runs from 1 May to 31 October, and the winter season from 1 November to 30 April. The archaeological reconstructions around the museum and the viewpoint are accessible all year, 24 hours a day. A standard museum visit takes around 40 minutes.

Pour les enfants

The foundations of older buildings survived underground. Today's Kashubian Cottage was built on their site. Parts of those earlier foundations have been preserved outside. The new building and the old stone remains tell us about different times.

The museum explores two subjects: archaeological research and the lives of fishermen. Archaeologists look for traces of people who lived before us. Józef Kostrzewski and Konrad Jażdżewski were among those who worked at Rzucewo. Following investigations in 1927-1929, Kostrzewski introduced the name Rzucewo culture in 1930. It describes a group of similar finds from old coastal settlements.

Research resumed in 1984. Archaeologists investigated the arrangement of houses and workshops, as well as traces of settlements from different periods. The Cottage also has a multimedia room and spaces for educational activities. Visitors can learn about the past through both exhibitions and organised learning.
