About

Stone fragments from buildings that no longer exist form the lapidarium, a collection where parts of old structures can be seen after the loss of their original surroundings. They come from Lanškroun, while some objects are associated with Lanšperk Castle. A doorway and window surrounds belonged to the pharmacy built in 1794 by the chemist and botanist Christian Polykarp Erxleben. These surviving elements are remnants of a demolished building connected with his work. Another trace of family history is a sandstone plaque bearing the name of Franz Jacob Pernikář, Erxleben’s father-in-law. It originally stood above the entrance to his house, which was also later demolished.

Everyday work is represented by a millstone from Lanšperk Castle and a stone mortar used to crush grain. The mortar was found during works on Sokolská Street in Lanškroun in 2004. The collection also includes fragments of the monument to Archbishop Petr Jelito, erected in the town in the early 1930s. Stone unites objects with different purposes, from working equipment to public commemoration. The lapidarium opens seasonally, from April to October.

A lapidarium is a collection of stone objects from the past. Here there are parts of buildings that no longer exist: a doorway surround and window surrounds from an old pharmacy. The chemist and botanist Christian Polykarp Erxleben had it built in 1794.

Another stone plaque bears the name of his father-in-law, Franz Jacob Pernikář. It once stood above a house doorway. There are also a millstone and a mortar, objects used to break down grain. The mortar was discovered during works on Sokolská Street in 2004.

Fragments of a monument to Archbishop Petr Jelito have also survived in the collection. Each object once served a different purpose. The lapidarium can be visited from April to October.
